There's been a change in the release date! Three Stupid Lies will be out JUNE 25TH 2014!
Ashten held one finger on the 9-millimeter’s trigger and another finger over the pre-programmed 911 text message. A full second passed. She couldn’t bring herself to use either. Still, she didn’t go soft like her dog. “What do you want?”
“Don’t be scared.” Tommy put Houdini down, and then slid one step farther into her bedroom. His eyes tracked around the room as if he were afraid someone would jump out of her closet. “I’ll go if you want me to, but first look what I found.” He held up the black and orange data stick he’d lost in the river.
What if Dad and the FBI are right about him? She looked past the electronic device directly into his icy, blue eyes. “What do you want?”
A coughing fit made him wince. His ribs must still hurt, but he didn’t let the pain distract him. “I, um, need help. The guy I was trying to take this stupid thing to is dead. His wife thinks it was an accident, but they got to him. Thing is, I don’t know how they knew to get him. I wanted to warn you. If they got to that guy who didn’t know anything—”
“Chances are big they’ll come after me thinking I do. Thanks.” If her leg weren’t held together by stitches the surge of panic flooding her body would’ve had her leaping out of bed and tearing down the hall.
“Yeah, I’m so sorry. I was afraid they’d get to you before I did.” Worry lines creased Tommy’s brow. His concern added to his good looks.
The FBI Idiot is right. I can’t think straight when he looks at me. She shook off Tommy’s hot-guy influence. “My dad will take care of it. Remember, I told you he would.” I should call him right now.
None of her fingers wanted to cooperate, so she studied Tommy for ticks or twitches that would indicate deception.
His body was a massive twitching nerve.
He’ll run if I call. If the killers don’t get him, he’ll go to jail. Either way, I’ll never see him again.
The thought hurt as badly as her leg. She held the gun steady. Dad’d say there’s a medication for that too.
